Muzeum Czartoryskich is the oldest in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe.
After the partition of Poland, in 1801 Izabella Czartoryska has opened ‘Sybilla Temple’ in Puławy gathering importaint items
connected with famous Polish people.

In 1835 russians confiscated the property, and the family emigrated to France, moving the collection to
Paris.

Her grandson Władysław brought back the collection to Poland, with opening the museum on present location in Kraków
in the year 1876.

Now the collection gathered by the family through the centuries is divided into several subsections:

  • gallery of paintings with DaVinci’s ‘Lady with an Ermine‘, ‘Landscape with Samaritan’ by Rembrandt, Breughel and Cranach’s works
  • european craftsmanship with italian Majolica , Murano glass, spanish travelers chests, amber, ivory works, astronomic tools
  • polish craftsmanship with polish ‘crystal glass’ from18th century, Meissen porcelain, , silk ‘kontusz’ belts
  • polish memorabilia belongings of Polish kings , aristocracy, heroes like Kościuszko and Pułaski, poets
  • items connected with famous Europeans like Napoleon’s pen, chair of Shakespeare, belongings of Rousseau, James Cook
  • Vienna victory over the Turks in 1683 with tent of great Vesir Kara Mustapha, Turkish weapons captured after the battle
  • armoury
  • Puławy corner with piano on which Chopin played, paintings and personal items of members of the Czartoryski family
  • archeological exhibition with egiptian mummies, etruscan sarcophaguses, ancient greek and roman artwork.
