St.Faustyna in Krakow
Saint Faustyna was born on August 25th 1905 in Głogowiec, near Świnice Warckie as Helena Kowalska.
She joined the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in 1925 , and thorough her convent life stayed in Warsaw , Płock ,Wilno and Kraków.
Here in Cracow took place the revelation of Hour of Mercy, here in convent’s chapel is the famous painting of ‘Jesus of Divine Mercy’ with two rays going out of his chest.
Underneath the original painting of ‘Jesus of Mercy’ lie remains of St.Faustyna canonised in the year 2000.
The new church - Sanctuary of Divine Mercy has been consecrated by the Pope, John Paul II in 2002.
In the wall near the entrance to the church you can see the unusual Pope’s gift -the stone from Calvary, the hill of Crucifiction. Under the main building there are four chapels that enable to celebrate four mass services (even in different languages) simultaneously. Among the unique design of the Sanctuary the most unusual is the 77- meters high tower with a panoramic view of the city.
