Designed by Arata Isozaki, finally opened in 1994 the museum crates unique space for meeting two different cultures: european and oriental.
The idea came from Oscar-awarded Polish film director Andrzej Wajda, who has been actively involved in development of the centre.
The name ‘Manggha’ is a nickname of Polish nobleman Feliks Jasieński , who at the end of 19th century gathered wast collection of Japanese art.This collection, now part of Cracow National Museum, is on permanent display in the museum.
The building features also the temporary exhibitions of modern Japanese Art and electronics technology. Sushi restaurant with a nice panoramic view on the river and the Wawel hill is popular place of everydays meetings. The Centre provides
classes for shool children on Japanese culture, and organizes traditional Japanese feasts, like ‘Kodomo no Hi’ children’s day when hundreds of carp fish banners hang around the nearby river.
