50 000 years ago ( late Stone Age ) - traces of settlements on the Wawel Hill

2nd century BC - 6th century AD presence of Celtic tribes in the area of Krakow

around 6th century settlement of Slavonic tribes

9th century strong state of Wiślanie (named after the river Wisła ) with reign of Krak family

965 - first written information on Krakow in diary of Ibrahim ibn Jakub, merchant and traveler from Muslim Spain

970 -990 -after the fights some dependance of Wiślanie from Czech king , later Krakow becomes part of Polish State ( Piast family of Polanie )

1000 - establishing of bishopric of Krakow (under Arcbishopric of Gniezno) start of the first Cathedral on the Wawel Hill

1040 and later - after invasion Czechs that destroys western part of Poland Prince Kazimierz settles down in Krakow with his court - Krakow becomes the capital of Poland

1079 - death of Bishop Stanislaus (canonized in Asisi in 1253), according to the tradition killed by the king Boleslaus, due to the accident the King loses the throne of Poland, then forced to leave the country dies abroad
